چکیده

There is little evidence on the role of prior infection in patients with external ventricular drains (EVDs) and lumbar (LDs). In this study, our aim to investigate whether previous bacteremia a risk factor for cerebrospinal fluid drain (CSFDI) EVDs LDs describe microorganisms implicated. We designed retrospective, single-center cohort study. recorded patients’ demographic clinical characteristics, as well microbiology laboratory data. used non-parametric statistical methods identify possible factors CSFDI. found 799 neurosurgical admissions during study period, 70 which fulfilled inclusion criteria. Acinetobacter baumannii was most frequent single pathogen isolated (CSF). more common CSFDI (p = 0.01). The distribution pathogens CSF differed from that blood 0.001). univariate analysis, 0.027), but, multivariate model, not identified an independent (OR 0.456, CI: 0.138–1.512, p 0.2). ICU population, frequently were Gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae baumannii. Previous significantly probable among or who developed CSFDI, its warrants further investigation.

Enterobius vermicularis in Cerebrospinal Fluid

Enterobius vermicularis is a nematod of large intestine in man. Extra intestinal localization of this parasite is rare. A 60 year old man was admitted to the hospital with the clinical manifestation of meningitis. In laboratory examination of cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F), the appearance was red, Albu-min level was high and the glucose showed normal value. Haematoxylin and Eosin stained slides pr...

Cerebrospinal fluid shunt infection: a prospective study of risk factors.

OBJECT Hydrocephalus is a common condition of childhood that usually requires insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt. Infection is one of the most devastating complications that may arise from the presence of CSF shunts. In this study, the authors prospectively analyzed perioperative risk factors for CSF shunt infection in a cohort of children. METHODS Between 1996 and 1999, 299 eligi...

CEREBROSPINAL FLUID FINDINGS IN NEONATAL BACTERIAL MENINGITIS

Background : Meningitis is more common during the neonatal period than other periods of life and has a prevalence of one in 1000 live births. The similarity of its clinical manifestations with other infectious diseases makes it difficult to diagnose. The aim of the current study was to determine the relationship between age, sex, clinical signs and symptoms and laboratory test results of ne...

A Giant Abdominal Cerebrospinal Fluid Pseudocyst

Background and Aim: Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the most commonly used procedure for treatment of hydrocephalus in children. Abdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst is a rare complication but potentially fatal. The pathogenesis of this complication remains unclear. This complication should be considered during differential diagnosis of an abdominal mass. Our aim is to report how large ...
